Country Living vs City Living

There are many benefits to living in the country versus the big city, especially in an area like Esterhazy, Saskatchewan where the city limits are close enough to make for a great day trip. Esterhazy is in Southeast Saskatchewan and is located only 83 kilometers from Yorkton, a place with around 16,000 people. If you would like a larger center yet, Regina, Saskatchewan’s capital city, is only 212 kilometers away. With this in mind, you can experience the benefits of living in a smaller mining community but have easy access to larger centers as well.

Stress Levels Decrease in the Country

When you live in a smaller community you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city. You do not get caught up and tend to feel rushed all the time. There is also a lot less background noise in a small community; you are not always hearing traffic and sirens or other loud noises. Your stress also decreases because you have the opportunity to be in better physical shape. Maintaining a yard in the country takes a lot of effort and you are always busy at something.

You Rely Less on the Grocery Store

Living in the country means growing your own food if you choose. It makes sense, when possible to grow our own food. With all that is going on with GMOs, pesticides, and food recalls, who would not want to feed their families the best food they possibly can? Growing a garden takes space so though you can have a small one in the city, there is much more room when you have an acreage or a larger lot.

Children are Closer to Nature

Living in the country allows children to experience nature as it was intended. They are able to go out and explore and learn so much more about plant and animal life. Spending more time outdoors and in open areas is good for the overall health of adults and children alike. Living in a place like the Qu’Appelle Valley provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors.

You are Part of a Community

Living the rural life helps you to feel like you are part of a community. In the city it is much easier to disconnect and live your own life independently of anyone else. Though some people may enjoy that way of living, raising kids with a sense of community is important. In the country it is harder to be anonymous. Neighbors are there to help one another and to be a part of each other’s lives. Small town or rural living comes with a lot of benefits. The country lifestyle may not be for everybody but remember, a place like Esterhazy is only a hop, skip, and a jump from a visit to the city.
